Barbara Moye

Barbara Denise Barnes, 71, January 17, 2021, at Tulsa, Ok. She was born to parents Arthur and Grace Moye on August 8, 1950. Her father was the owner of a successful exterminating business while her mother was employed as a hairdresser; they resided in Wichita, Kansas. During her early pre-teen years, Barbara proudly served in the first group of African-American hospital candy stripers. Then in 1963, Grace Moye died an early death at the age of 38 while Barbara was only 13 years old. Grace entrusted God to finish and complete His good work in her three children. Distraught, yet strong, Barbara went on to graduate from high school in 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. She transitioned to reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1968 and lived with her Aunt Lois Risby until she graduated from business school. Then in 1971, she was blessed with her first-born child, Andre Nickolas Moye. She worked as a single mother in the oil and gas industry at Getty Oil Company. Always ambitious, she completed her second business program, which advanced her career and enabled her to purchase her first home at the age of 22. She was an active member of Vernon AME church, and in 1977, she met Vernon Barnes. They dated and were married in 1980, and she birthed her second child Sonya Barnes in 1982. Barbara continued in the oil and gas industry at Citgo Oil Company, and her husband was a firefighter. Barbara and Vernon loved to travel and used their timeshare to explore many cities in the U.S. While Barbara and Vernon’s union later ended, Barbara stayed strong in the Lord. She was an active member of Transformation Church. There, she served faithfully on the altar ministry, bringing souls to Christ and praying for their various concerns. After completing minister training, she also provided volunteer chaplain services for St. John’s Hospital for a number of years. There, she prayed for many souls during times of grief and sorrow, as many of them were transitioning Her hobbies and interests included daily quiet time with God being with her family, gardening, and shopping. Barbara is survived by: her sisters, Jackie Manning, and her three daughters; one son, Andre Moye and his son, Nickolis Moye; one daughter, Sonya Barnes; and many cousins and other loved ones.
